Hollowing
Phil started by drawing/showing the steps to hollowing on a flip chart. Then on a bowl blank showed how to create a start hole with a drill a spindle gouge or one of his hollowing tools. He showed a selection of his hollowing tools – Bowl gouge, BCT’s, Scrapers, Rolly Munroe shielded ring tool. Phil then demonstrating how to present each of them to the work safely and to get the best finish.
There was a good deal of Q&A throughout this section of the demo. In the second half Phil produced a thin-walled vase show casing the method & the special tools he uses like a bent wire coat hanger for removing shavings, bought & hand made deep sanding sticks, special magnetic lights for illumination and wall thickness detection.
It was a well-attended night. Members showed their appreciation for a great demo with all taking some new knowledge home. So well done Phil.
